The obvious advantage of buying a used snow plow is price. But what are the others? If you buy a used snow plow you can easily buy one a little bigger, maybe of a better quality and not spend more money than if you had bought a small, okay quality one for the same price.
When thinking about the possibility of spending five hundred to a thousand dollars when buying a snow plow the possibility of saving half that by buying a used one quickly becomes appealing. But this poses the question of where to find a used snow plow. The answer to this is that the prospects are almost unlimited.
First try your local area newspaper. There are always classified advertisements and it will just be a matter of choosing the right category to search. They may even have a used snowplow section of ads. Also look at the farm equipment column; you never know what you might find there. Then check whatever online classifieds you can access that has ads within your area or whatever radius you are prepared to drive to find what you are looking for. You can also go to the local dealerships. They will often have a used snow plow or two for sale but their prices will likely be higher then those you can barter with through classified ads. Still if you go to the dealers at least you'll have the chance to look at the different makes and so maybe get a better idea of what you're looking for.
All these options assume that what you want to buy is a used plow blade to attach to your truck or tractor. What if instead you looked to buy a cheap older pick-up or van that either already has a blade attached to it? This would mean not having to mount anything on your prized SUV or pick-up. You'd have your used snowplow, at a good price and not have to insure or license it unless you planned to take it off your property. This may be an alternative worth considering for inexpensive slow clearing.
