A storm moving up the East Coast is expected to combine with a cold air mass and dump anywhere from a dusting of snow to about foot of snow Saturday in parts of the Northeast.
October snowfall records could be broken in parts of southern New England, especially at higher elevations. The October record for southern New England is 7.5 inches in Worcester in 1979.
New York City could also see trace amounts of snow, the first to fall in the city before Halloween since 1952, CBS News station WCBS-TV reports.
“”Northwestern New Jersey, the lower Hudson Valley, portions of northern Connecticut, the whole state of Massachusetts except for the Cape and then all the way up through New England, those areas are expected to see accumulating snow of anywhere from 4, 6, higher elevations could be as much as 8 or 10 inches,”” Morrin told CBS Radio News
The storm could bring more than 6 inches of snow to parts of Maine beginning Saturday night. Parts of southern Vermont could receive more than a foot of wet snow Saturday into Sunday.
In Pennsylvania, 6 to 10 inches could fall at higher elevations, including the Laurel Highlands in the southwestern part of the state and the Pocono Mountains in the northeastern part. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh could see a coating.
My recommendation to you guys up there in the New England state, get your shovels and snow plows ready to embrace this first big storm of the season. A foot a of wet heavy snow is hard on your back, that’s why I recommend using a snow plow.

A tree-snapping, travel-disrupting snowstorm has wound down in Denver. However, conditions will continue worsening southward along the I-25 corridor into northeastern New Mexico through tonight.
The storm cut power to more than 100,000 customers in the Denver area, according to Xcel Energy Wednesday afternoon. With temperatures dropping into the lower 20s and even teens in some places tonight, the situation does not bode well for people without power.
Less than 36 hours after Monday’s record 80-degree warmth, a winter wonderland has unfolded across northeastern Colorado and neighboring southeastern Wyoming.
The snow commenced in Denver and Cheyenne, Wyo., late Tuesday into Wednesday morning.
Snow totals have reached 3 to 6 inches in Denver with more than a foot falling toward the foothills. Areas in northwest Denver have picked up more than 8 inches of snow.
Other snow totals in Colorado include 7 to 8 inches in Fort Collins, 8 to 10 inches in Boulder, more than a foot in Greeley and 5 to 6 inches around Colorado Springs.
